1. Make the decision to improve your speaking and leadership skills.

  2. Find a Toastmaster Club near you with a suitable meeting schedule. Click Links to find a few of the clubs near Club 832 in the West Seattle Area.

  3. Attend a meeting or two to see how the Toastmaster process works. Click Roles for a list of roles and a brief explanation of each role.

  4. Feel free to ask questions of the members or the officers to clarify what you've observed. Speak with the VP Membership to obtain a Guest Packet.

  5. You'll find a Membership Application in the Guest Packet, along with helpful hints as to the costs involved.

  6. Complete the Application at the meeting, or bring the filled-in application to the next meeting along with a check. An Officer can answer any questions you may have. The VP Membership's role is to help you through this process. The Club Treasurer can help you calculate the dues. (Dues are prorated monthly.)

  7. Submit the filled-in Application to the Club Treasurer along with a check for the new member fees and dues.

  8. The Treasurer or the Secretary will enter you as a New Member with Toastmasters International. Toastmasters International will send you a New Member Packet which consists of the Competent Communicator and the Competent Leader manuals. You will use the Competent Communicator Manual for your first 10 speeches.

  9. At your induction ceremony you will be assigned a Mentor to help you prepare for your first speech and to help you through your the next two speeches. Your Mentor is a resource that you should use to help you become more familiar with the Toastmaster path.

  10. Enjoy the journey, make new friends, and learn how to communicate more effectively.

"I've learned a lot about public speaking by participating in Toastmasters - it's fun and everyone's so helpful and supportive.  And Club 832 is a great place to make new friends - and we laugh a lot."
